Hello everyone!
I hope you all had a great summer! With the new school year starting, I thought this would be a good time to share a development update and let you know what I’ve been working on behind the scenes.
SLF3D – Staying Realistic
First of all, following the results of the latest poll, SLF3D will keep its realistic visual style.
I previously mentioned that I was aiming to have a playable demo ready in September. However, because of a pretty significant change in direction, that demo will have to wait a little longer.
Until recently, I was developing SLF3D as an isometric 3D game, with dialogue scenes presented through HD visual novel-style renders. While I liked the concept, I increasingly felt restricted by the pre-rendered images, especially when it came to things like clothing variations and more dynamic interactions.
So, over the summer, I spent a lot of time experimenting with something I had been considering for a while: moving toward a fully 3D experience and bringing my characters directly into Unity, while trying to maintain both good visual quality and reasonable performance.
And… the results have actually been pretty encouraging!
So, there’s been a bit of a change of plans.
I’m currently doing a lot of testing, and nothing is set in stone. If I eventually realize that this approach is simply too ambitious or difficult to maintain, I may still return to the previous format. But right now, the direction I’m exploring is a semi-open 3D game focused heavily on story, characters, exploration, and environmental interactions, while keeping the school atmosphere at the heart of the experience.
The game will also feature familiar characters from the shared School, Love & Friends / Big Brother universe (from WhiteSilver) I’ve been building over the years.
For a rough idea of what I’m aiming for, you could imagine something with a visual presentation somewhat reminiscent of House Party, but with a much larger emphasis on exploration, story, atmosphere, and a world that feels alive around you.
Maybe I’m aiming a little too high. 😅 But I want to be clear: I’m not presenting any of this as a list of promises. I’m simply sharing the ideas, experiments, and ambitions that are currently guiding development. As the project progresses, I’ll keep what works, change what doesn’t, and hopefully build something really interesting along the way.
What About SLF and MLF Remake?
SLF3D is obviously going to be a long-term project. Fortunately, I’m switching to part-time at my regular job in about a month, which should give me significantly more time to dedicate to development.
And in the meantime, SLF and MLF Remake will continue receiving updates.
I’m currently working on SLF 2.16, which will start wrapping up some existing storylines while also setting the stage for the next phase of several relationships—particularly Vicky and Seth.
I’ll have a first preview of that update for you very soon!
Have a great day, everyone, and thank you as always for following and supporting my projects! ❤️
